FAQ's

Q.  Why do your decals work better than others?
A.  The simple answer is that we use the right material, adhesive, and ink.  It is a case of "you get what you pay for".

Q.  What is the difference between a decal and a label?
A.  Labels are typically printed on thin paper or vinyl, and they are printed via flexography.  They are inexpensive for sure, but not the right product for outdoor or underwater application.  "Weatherproof" labels require a laminate, otherwise the ink will literally wash away.  There is an excellent chance the laminate will begin to separate from the base of the decal, taking the ink with it.  Decals on the other hand, are printed either via screen print or digital print, on a more durable/thicker vinyl and have a more aggressive adhesive.  A laminate is not necessary, unless you want to further protect the vinyl from tearing in harsh conditions.  Our materials are more expensive, and the print process is slower than flexography.  Our inks are rated between 3 and 5 years.

Q.  I see various company names on your site.  Can you clarify?
A.   There is a history behind the names.  In the 80's and most of the 90's, Lindycal was its own sales company, but Sun Graphic Technologies was the manufacturer.  In 1998, Sun Graphic Technologies purchased Lindycal and continued to focus on the scuba industry.  We kept the Lindycal name as it has brand awareness with our long-time customers.  In creating this online eCommerce site, we felt the need to have a very direct identity of the primary product sold, hence ScubaVIPDecals.com.  Sun Graphic Technologies is the primary company name, and the name you'll see most on our paperwork and correspondance.

Q.  I have ordered from Lindycal / Sun Graphic Technologies in the past.  Does Lindycal have my art on file, or do I need to recreate my design here?
A.  Most likely, we have your previous art on file, even from 10+ years ago.  If you can let us know the job number or invoice number of your last job, and tell us what minor art changes are needed (i.e. years, phone number, etc.), we will process your order and issue a pdf proof for approval.  You do not need to recreate the layout here.  If there is an issue, we'll let you know.

Q.  I want to create my own artwork, not using the online art creator.  Can I do that?
A.  Yes, as long as you can create a printable file.  Within each product category, there is an option for REORDERS and UPLOADING YOUR OWN ARTWORK.  This option will not require you to create a layout online.  Please look in the "Forms" menu to review our Art Specification sheet.  If your art is not in a usable/printable format, an additional set-up fee will apply.

Q.  I want to create a decal that is unrelated to cylinder inspections.  Can I create a layout that contains any type of information or image?
A.  Yes.  Use the blank template to create a layout for any purpose.  The content printed on the decal is up to you.  This website only has our standard sizes.  If you would like a different size, please submit a quote request using the email address link on the left side of the home page.

Q.  I need multiple-sized decals that all print in the same colors.  What is the best way to price this scenario?
A.  Any time possible, we will group together like items into one production run, which typically saves you money.  The colors and material need to be the same, and the ratio of various sizes need to be conducive to grouping together.  Let us know what you would like, and we'll make suggestions to make it work.  Submit a quote request using the email address link on the left side of the home page.
